Palm Sunday: The Cry That Changed Everything

By Apostle Dr. Misty Holmes Dorsey

As we enter into Holy Week, Palm Sunday stands as a divine invitation for reflection, renewal, and realignment. It marks the moment when Jesus—our humble King—rode into Jerusalem, not on a war horse, but on a borrowed donkey. It was a moment filled with prophetic significance, spiritual clarity, and divine fulfillment.

“Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass…” – Matthew 21:5 (KJV)

The people laid down palm branches and shouted Hosanna!—a cry that echoed through the streets of Jerusalem. But do we truly understand what they were saying?

What Does Hosanna Really Mean?

The word Hosanna comes from the Hebrew phrase "Hôšîʿâ-nā", which means “Save now, I pray” (Psalm 118:25).

It wasn’t just a shout of praise—it was a plea, a prophetic decree, and an unknowing call to the cross.

The people were asking for a Savior—but they didn’t understand that salvation wouldn’t come through politics or power, but through sacrifice and surrender.

While they were waving palms, they were unknowingly endorsing His death. But God was using their cry to activate His plan. The cross was already in view, and Jesus—fully aware—rode in anyway.

The Donkey Had Purpose—So Do You

Before Jesus entered Jerusalem, He gave His disciples a simple instruction:

“Loose them, and bring them to Me. If any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them…” – Matthew 21:2–3 (KJV)

Even the donkey was not random—it had prophetic assignment.

Maybe you’ve felt tied up, overlooked, or not yet used. But God has a way of reserving the unusual, the uncelebrated, the underestimated—for His greatest moves.

You may not look like a stallion, but you were born to carry the King.

Don't Mislabel Your Miracle

The Israelites saw manna fall from heaven and said, “What is it?” (Exodus 16:15). They didn’t recognize that it was bread from heaven.

God called it bread. They called it manna—because they couldn’t define what they didn’t understand.

This Palm Sunday, don’t mislabel what God is doing just because it’s unfamiliar. What may look strange to you could be divine in origin.

A Word to Our House

As your shepherd, I believe God is calling us—like the disciples—to untie what’s been bound, to prepare the way, and to recognize the King for who He is.

Let this week stir your spirit. Let the cry of Hosanna come from a deeper place. Not just, “Save me from hardship,” but “Save me into Your will.”

Palm Sunday Reflection Questions:

What is God asking you to release or untie in this season?

Are you allowing Jesus to ride in—on your life, your plans, your surrender?

What are you calling "manna" that God has called "bread from heaven"?

Let Us Prepare Our Hearts

As we wave our palm branches in worship, let’s remember that Palm Sunday is not just a celebration—it’s a prophetic turning point. The King is coming. And He’s coming for more than a moment—He’s coming for your heart.

“Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!” – Matthew 21:9 (NKJV)
